I am often asked why I got into massage, to be honest I never thought I would be a Massage Therapist. Before becoming a therapist I had received only one massage in my entire life! So how in the heck did I end up here?
Well what led me down this road was my passion for healing. Since I was a young girl I’ve had this passion running through me. Growing up in Alaska I learned about the local plants and their healing properties. It fascinated me and encourage me to keep looking for more methods that we can use to heal our bodies. That’s when Massage came along. The moment I learned about massage and what it could do, I was hooked! I began searching for training. It wasn’t even three months later I was quitting my job, and boarding a plane to Washington.
Massage therapy is recognized as one of the oldest methods of healing, with references in medical texts nearly 4,000 years old. Hippocrates, known as the "father of medicine," referenced massage when he wrote, in the 4th century B.C.: "The physician must be acquainted with many things, and assuredly with rubbing." Julius Caesar used Massage Therapy daily to relieve his neuralgia and epileptic seizures. In fact he had a Massage Therapist travel with him where ever he went. This ancient modality is still around because it works!
I graduated in 2014 from Ancient Arts Massage School. With my patients I prefer to create a custom massage using a variety of modalities including Swedish, deep tissue, myo-fascial release, cupping and more. I am committed to the idea that massage should be a regular part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. I believe in the body’s ability to heal itself and that massage therapy is one of the many paths to restoring health and wholeness to the body. Since finishing Massage school I have continued to learn more modalities and I won’t be stopping anytime soon. I have recently been working on becoming a hypnotherapist. I plan to use this amazing technique to help others release past traumas, have more self-confidence, quit smoking, lose weight and more. I also enjoy archery, biking, gardening, cooking, and reading.
